CHINATOWN ON NEW YEAR'S EVE

I don't really prepare for Chinese New Year, like buying 12 different kinds of fruits, tikoy, etc. The only tradition I have kept religiously through these years, for good luck, (as taught to me by a former Chinese co-teacher) is leaving seven coins by the doorstep before the clock strikes 12 midnight. In the morning, I keep them in my drawer, strictly not to be spent throughout the year.-

I have 4 boxes of tikoy today from my Chinese suppliers. Kaya libre merienda namin mamaya.:D
Staff in our apparel division is rejoicing because their HK and China counterparts are on holiday. Walang mangungulit pag CNY. :)-

Having spent more of my life in New York than in Manila, Rhoda, I find the myriad local "kasabihan" so stupefying ... hehehe. Its encyclopaediac proprotions can be so daunting that I sometimes wonder how the local Pinoys ever find the courage and wherewithal to venture into any sort of enterprise, business or otherwise :)
But nonetheless, hey, every little piece of advice helps, I guess ... hehehe.-

The good luck charms, Sidney, seemed to be doing quite a brisk business, which includes any fruit that's round. But the tikoy remains to be the most in demand :)

When I was a kid, Luna, with all the tikoy my father would receive from his business associates/contacts, it'd be tikoy for merienda for us for quite sometime afterwards ... hehehe. I gues, I must've overdosed back then on tikoy that I merely enjoy its sight nowadays more so than the actual munching of them.

Prices of tikoy here in Binondo, BW, range from 50 to 200 pesos depending on the size you want. I love them as a kid, but no longer as I got older. Na purga na ata ako doon ... hehehe. I'll take buchi anytime.
