Toots, as you know, happens to be a superb musician, Sidney. He had played in the recordings of many fine artists -- from Billy Joel to Willy Nelson, from jazz to rock, and from music for films to concert performances.

Hmm, I don't recognize any of the songs in your list. I don't listen much to music these days. Lagi kasing nakaharap sa TV. :) Once in a while when I'm bored, I'd pop in my 80's CDs in my boombox.

Hi Eric! Thanks for doing the meme. I've not heard David Bowie for the longest time. Each time I go to record stores, I look for a CD of his but can't find any. I also like Leon Russel's Masquerade but have not heard it again since many many years ago. I've come across Toots Thielemans but I can't recall where or what. And I've only lately discovered Rivermaya, would you believe? I liked them instantly so I went out to buy their two Greatest Hits CDs but it seems Bali Song is not there (or did I just miss it?) so I must look for that one.

As for Rivermaya's song, maybe you meant "Balisong" (fan knife). It is said that Paco, the band's vocalist, if I'm not mistaken, promised to return from a trip to Baguio with a balisong as pasalubong to his girlfriend. Realizing later that he wouldn't be able to fulfill this, he wrote a love song entitled "Balisong". The lines "Your face lights up the sky on the highway" is a tribute to the girl, whose face graced a billboard ad.
Canon in D major, eh. Pachelbel is the composer of that masterpiece. It's a wedding song made more popular today by the Korean movie "My Sassy Girl". A very apt song for the celebration of true love, I must say, for hearing it gives me the sensation of soaring through the air. Sigh.
It would be difficult for me to list mere seven songs. In terms of genres, I'm currently into Pinoy Rock, 90's music, sentimental ballads, instrumentals and house/trance music.
Hmm.. better blog about music too, if I have time.

ReplyDeleteMasquerade is from Leon Russel's '70s album, Carny (I think). George Benson did a cover of it which became a big hit.

I love Diana Krall's duet with Tony Bennet which they performed at David Letterman's show -- "Baby It's Cold Outside."

I was only listening to the radio and my nephew's CD, which he had already claimed back. HOwever, I believe this tune is available on iTunes site :)
