They do, indeed! Exactly a week ago, the universe once again provided the opportunity for me to actualize a long-held dream — to get myself a Nikon digital SLR camera. I then spent a week familiarizing myself with its basic features. Yesterday, I drove over to Baywalk at Roxas Boulevard to take some photos of the sunset, which I haven’t done in quite some time. It was a cloudy afternoon due to a storm on its way to the island so there wasn’t any magnificent sunset to photograph, but I did manage to find some other interesting subjects in the area. The following photos were from my photo shoot adventure yesterday using my new Nikon D80 dSLR.
Incidentally, I have another thing to be thankful for. After about six or seven weeks of waiting, PLDT (the local major telephone service provider) finally fixed the problem I had with my landline. I am now once again able to surf the Net at the comfort of my home with my mug of decaf coffee. Thank you, PLDT!
To borrow Monty Python’s famous line — and now for something completely different — I thought for a change I’d recommend an entry written by another fellow blogger for each of my photograph below, which I think best reflects its essence. So here we go…

Jase’s Five Sins That Stop The Philippines From Being A Tourist Destination
Yey! Good to hear that you bought a Nikon D80, that's awesome!
ReplyDelete(:
Read some of the links you posted up, they're good. Truly do reflect with the photos that you've posted up.
Have a great weekend!
When do you plan to visit Manila, Kyels? Are you planning on taking any of Carlos' or Ivan's walking tours? I may take one with you!
ReplyDeleteNice camera, isn't it? So, you bought yourself an early Christmas gift! ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pictures are 2 and 3.
Number 3 is my favorite but that will probably not surprise you.
Congratulations. An early Christmas gift for yourself.
ReplyDeleteMore great pictures coming up, right?
I was originally expecting to get one as a Xmas gift from my brother in the States, but an opportunity arose for me to get it myself. And like you said, Sidney, an early Christmas gift for myself :)
ReplyDeleteYou can't imagine how happy I am to have my landline back.
Hi Myepinoy!
I'm sure you're enjoying your balikbayan vacation! Do have a safe and wonderful stay.
enjoy your new toy! i just bought a book on digital photography. hope that helps me take better, more artistic digital photos. as usual, pretty pics...they're making me feel homesick.:(
ReplyDeleteOut it this way, G.Knotee, by the time you come home for a visit you'd know just where to go and take some beautiful pics.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your digital photography undertaking. I am also considering on taking some workshops so I would enjoy it more.
Ooops ... typo: should be "Put it this way."
ReplyDeleteNice pics!!! hehe... talk about cameras... before when I didnt have a cam of my own, i had sooo eager to have one, everywhere i look, i imagine myself taking a pic. When finally I had one, i was just happy for a week, strolling and clicking whatever, whenever and wherever i can, after that, i had no interest taking pics anymore... is that a common (normal) attitude? I dont know...
ReplyDeleteOh, you surprised me by my inclusion in your post!!! Im so honored =D
Thanks! I hope my entry did justice to your awesome pic =D
Dops
God forbid, DOPS ... I hope that is not the common attitude with newly bought cameras ... hahaha! I meant to make full use of it. Actually, I've signed up for a workshop to better understand digital photography.
ReplyDeleteYour entry is truly a heartwarming tribute to a friend. And as I've also said, lucky is your friend for having someone like you who knows how to appreciate the blessings passed on to him.
God bless DOPS!
Breathtaking photos! I'm envious, I've always wanted a digital SLR, but am happy you got yours of course! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Christine! Thanks! Are you back from your Mexican trip?
ReplyDeleteGreat shots ! The night shots were particularly impressive.
ReplyDeleteAmazing pictures Eric! Now, I'm so excited to go home to Manila... kahit sa 2008 pa 'yon. :(
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful pictures, Senor Enrique!
ReplyDeleteI'm still not done lurking on your blog.. hehehe. I'm doing it now while I still have free time because tomorrow I will be going back to school - not as a teacher, but as a student - again, mind you. haha!
I love lazing around Roxas Boulevard. One trip to Manila that I always remember was when we as family drove along this place, and my daughter, who would usually just go to malls with her cousins when vacationing there, was awed that there were such other places in Manila. When I took her with me to watch Miss Saigon at the CCP, her impression changed from that of the typical "mall girl" to a more culturally aware youngster. She commented: "Marami palang makikita dito sa Manila, hindi lang malls.." haha! Then I realized, she hasn't visited Rizal Park, Fort Santiago, Intramuros, Paco Church and many other historical places in Manila because unfortunately, whenever her school would organize field trips, it would usually be to Enchanted Kingdom and Subic. Well, so far, we have taken her to Fort Santiago and Paco Church. The rest - saka na lang, pag magka-college na siya diyan sa Manila in June. :)
Oh, with regards to posting comments at my site... I was trying to figure out the problem last night, and I slept it off. When I woke up, I found them right there where you left them. I don't know, I guess my Spam Eater is over reacting. hehe. Thanks for the comment, anyway.... I have replied to it.
This comment is long enough for a blog entry...Thanks for straining your eyes reading it...i'm calling it a night now...
I, too, enjoy being a student so much, Rhodora, that I get depressed when not learning or studying anything. Like now, I'm into photography and actually, will start the next workshop this weekend. When I first got here in Manila, I took up baking and cooking classes in Diliman. Ako lagi pinaka matanda sa mga klase :)
ReplyDeleteSo good luck and have fun with our upcoming schooling!
Paco Church I am yet to visit, including its park. Soon!
Yes, there's plenty to do here in Metro Manila besides malling :)
Ay thank God you discovered the problem I was having in leaving comments on your site.
Thanks for visiting!
Eric, (ang haba kasi ng Senor Enrique)- the oldest are usually the wisest. hehe.
ReplyDeleteI'm studying law... grabe! At first, it was meant to just while away my time, keep my mind sharp and not to be ignorant of the law - but I got deeper and deeper - and before I knew it - I'm in my third year already. I'm not very keen about taking the bar though. I know my limitations.
Luckily, hindi ako ang pinakamatanda sa klase namin... hehehe. Meron pa akong classmate na retirable age na - at malayo pa naman ako doon.
Good luck sa photography workshop mo. Nagugustuhan ko din pagkuha ng mga photos ngayon, using both digi cam and my phone cam, pero suntok sa buwan ang pagkuha ko - wala akong alam sa professional photography. Please give me naman tips. Thanks.
See you around.
Eric is just fine, Rhodora.
ReplyDeleteGaling! Sa law school ka pala. Did a brief stint with one of New York's prestigious intellectual property law firm and really enjoyed the experience.
I trust you'll make a great lawyer who will uphold the law and help out those who are unknowledgeable about. I had a misfortune dealing with an unscrupulous lawyer here in Manila; it is indeed a shame. Someday I'll email you about that story.
Good luck with your studies!
I love the title. very inspiring.
ReplyDelete(wala lang, it made me smile) DREAMS DO COME TRUE IN MANILA
And they do, Dhon.
ReplyDeleteDon't let anyone make you think otherwise :)
