I thought that you might have suddenly gone out of town, Sidney!

Anyway, this was truly one incredible festival which I wished would never end. Also, it was actually my very first time to enjoy a festival performance and from many provinces, too!

Btw, I ran out of memory cards :( I'm going to get another bigger one for events like this.

This is supposedly an annual Manila event, Carla. Many provinces send over their respective festival performance group to Manila to compete against many others from various regions of the country for a top prize of one million pesos.

It was really a wonderful event!

Hm, this looks like an entry in Sidney's blog. Just stating my observation, which may perhaps console Sidney for missing this event.

Very colorful!

We don't have an entry from Pangasinan and Dagupan because we are also having our own festivities here - Bangus Festival and Pista'y Dayat (Feast of the Sea. And I think, politics too, is another reason - everyone seems to be deeply submerged in the coming elections. :(

It was a very hot day, Irene, but I stayed out there the whole day and took as much as 500 shots. But I must have drank a dozen bottles of water to constantly rehydrate myself.

I was just simply enamored by the colors and the excitement of the event. How I wish you can experience this annual Manila festival, Irene. It was so much fun!

Let's not forget, Dave, that Sidney's are the authentic ones; the real thing -- taken from the actual provinces. Mine were merely taken in Manila.

Had they not organized such event, God only knows when I'd get a chance to take a trip and experience a true festival ... hehehe!

So, Sidney remains the master!

I think it also costs a lot of money to send an entire troupe to manila and join this event, Rhoda. So, you may be right -- everyone is focused on the politics in Pangasinan at the moment, as well as on its upcoming local festivals.

Ah, you must go next year, Gita! It is really a festival worth getting a sunburn for ... hehehe.

I took many shots and have decided to post some of them in groups to enable our blogger friends to get as much taste of this festival, though only through these pictorial essays.

Many thanks! Hope that you'll be there with us shooting next year!

I thought you'd still be in Bangkok, Tito.

This event was greatly promoted by FPPF and they actually even had a photo contest going on for this event. You can imagine how many fellow FPPF officers and members I kept running into during the whole time.

Just blog-hopping and found yours. What a colorful festival! I have not been back in the Philippines and Manila for 40 years. It's good to see those beautiful photos. It's like being there in person.

Thanks for sharing your images Senor!
I wish I was there :( kaya lang I had to my dentist two days in a row for my scheduled treatment. Morning pa lang we were contemplating of going but we were also worried for baby sa sobra madami tao.

Pinagpala ang Aliwan dahil gumanda ang panahon.

I was thinking that you and Sidney will be there.

Anyway next time and we hope to visit the ones in the provinces too :)

wow... you are really rivaling Sidney now as one of the top photo bloggers I knew. And it's good, especially that you're getting better and better with your craft.

Anyway, just letting you know that I saw your blog mentioned in "Digtal Tour"last night over TFC. And I'm really proud. Keep it up. Keep it high. Dont stop even if it hurts.

My pleasure, Mimi! I really had such a wonderful time at this event that the least I could do is share the photos I've taken with all of you.

Festivals like this makes you really appreciate our local culture and people :)

Thanks, Belle. We were extremely grateful for a very cooperative weather on that day, though it was hot! But the sun added more life and vividness to these kids' colorful costumes :)

Hi Ebb Tide,

Please remember that there are many good things about Manila, though you may hear many bad things from some fellow Pinoys where you are. This annual Aliwan Festival is one of them :)

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures I had taken!

You're welcome, Daisy! Sidney wasn't able to make it :(

But you better not miss next year's, either. It was so much fun I found myself wishing that it would never end, really. I guess, it was because the colorful parade and street dancing brought much joy to the people of the city!

Many thanks, Rey! We can say that I continually learn much from Sidney; not rival him ... hehehe. Besides, Sidney actually goes out there and document the local festivals; whereas, I merely wait for them to come visit Manila :)

Wow! Thanks for letting me know about the TFC special mention. And many thanks as well, Rey, for your encouragement and fond thoughts. I truly appreciate them :)
