MUHIBAH


It is the inflight magazine of Royal Brunei Airlines. Three of my photographs were published in its May/June 2008 issue to accompany an article that explores the charming side of Manila -- its historical splendor and cultural legacies.

    Is this the Mosque with a 24 karat gold (like the Mosque of Omar in Jerusalem) dome, which the Ayala Development Corp. built?
    The second photo looks like the Malacanang facade.

    Whenever I get to ride airplanes I always stash away their in-flight mags just because I know that the photos in it are worth keeping! Sayang hindi kami pumupuntang brunei!

    That's the building within the Malacanang complex, Ka Tony, where the last and final photo of Marcos and Imelda was taken on the balcony as they waved goodbye to the Filipinos before they were whisked away on a helicopter, and then on to a plane to Hawaii.

    This was the lead photo on my photo essay on the Malacanang Museum, which this building has been turned into.

    More than the lovely photos, I think its a very positive statement in portraying Manila and sharing to others her unique character- far from the poverty and third-world mediocrity that somehow, outsiders have come to associate with our city.
