    I read BW's post on "20 worst lyrics ever", Eric. LOL!

    It never ceases to fascinate me how songs and verses can mean a lot - and there are those that even carry some history behind them.

    "Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
    Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
    All the King's horses and all the King's men
    Couldn't put Humpty Dumpty together again."

    Now who would ever think that the Humpty Dumpty known to kids all over the globe referred to a powerful cannon of the English army?

    I like the photo of the girl. Very poetic. :)

    She must be between 14 and 16 years of age, and it probably took her many years to grow her hair at such length :)

    This photograph, by the way, inspired me to someday shoot a pair of ballet dancers -- man and woman -- in 'poetic' poses against a glorious Manila Bay sunset.

    I was saving this photograph for a special entry, Ka Tony, and upon reading BW's post about lyrics, this immediately came to mind as the photo to accompany a reciprocal entry.

    This has got to be one of the most evocative songs of all time. It's reminiscent of the girls of my early teenage years whom I could only adore from afar, for I lacked the confidence or the "heart," so to speak, to even get near them.

    I'm sure every boy will go through similar episodes. And this song, "Aubrey" by Bread, though melancholy, celebrates such boyhood experience in perpetuity.

    Humpty Dumpty was actually an English cannon? Whoa! I had no idea.

    I really enjoyed that blog entry by BW. And thank God I thought of this photograph when I was thinking of an entry to post in response.

    This one-liner from "Aubrey" has got to be one of the most romantic lines ever.

    Can you imagine a boy having the chance to dance the night away with someone he could only worship from afar, or someone he could only be with for one single day or evening?

    Ah, the hopeless romantic in me ... hehehe.

    You are so very right, Eric. I also think 'Aubrey' as a whole is the most powerful love song ever.

    I also like these lines:

    "But who's to blame?
    For a love that wouldn't bloom
    For the hearts that never played in tune.
    Like a lovely melody that everyone can sing,
    Take away the words that rhyme it doesn't mean a thing."

    All David Gates' songs "If"... "Clouds"... hay naku, lahat talaga - they are all beautiful. :)

    The beautiful silhouette here reminds me of a kolehiyala Sade :-).

    I love songs with beautifully written lyrics. My father would always buy Broadway records as well operatic excerpts from great operas and so I grew up with these musical genres. When we siblings could earn, we would splurge on Broadway musicales in every form---cds, piano pieces and even other trivias of them. We treasure though a lot of Filipino compositions and one of them Ryan Cayabyab's full-lenght musical RamaSita!

    FYI, Jose Mari Chan had been collaborating in NY with Janis Siegel of the Manhattan Transfer fame, on a project that would allow Chan's compositions to be sang in the US by American singers.

    Interesting what the outcome would be in that Siegel is a Grammy multi-awardee with Manhattan Transfer and as a solo jazz artist.

    Chan's lyrics are OK for Pinas but too conservative for the folks in this part of the world I think. His songs have lyrics like :

    "Like a child again
    I'm out and lost for words
    How does one define a crush combined with longing "

    LOL.. I'm sure he'll change and "make it a bit rough " to suit the taste of the folks here :)

    Hi Bernadette,

    Burt Bacharach and Hal David is another phenomenal duo. The very first Broadway show I saw was "Promises, Promises," which featured "I'll Never Fall In Love Again."

    Another duo I admire most is George and Ira Gershwin :)

    You certainly have a wonderful collection of fine music :)

    Another local singer who sings a lot of beautifully written songs is Basil Valdez! I love his song "tuwing Umuulan at kapiling ka..." I do not know if that is the title but when I heard the song again, I was just in tears of joy!!!
