PHOTO SHOOT WITH BATMAN
Bought two lamps from a street vendor in Quiapo — one was a clamp-on, the other a regular desk lamp model — and two of those spiral white bulbs. Later on, at National Bookstore in Avenida Rizal, I bought a sheet of black felt paper. As soon as I got home, I emptied one of the plastic containers we have in the house and used it as my soft light box (plastic is an effective light diffuser which prevents glare and hotspots on the subject).
As for my model, it was Batman. Out of the entire superhero lot, I think Batman ranks among the top simply because he doesn’t possess any superhuman powers and yet he’s out there every night battling the goons of Gotham.
Here are the results of this photo session:
One of the reasons photography can be so addictive is because it’s an activity much like playing. When I was doing this shoot the other night, I lost all sense of time and space; not realizing it was already way past midnight. It was that much fun. It used to be that I took pictures mostly out of the house somewhere; however, since learning more about the mechanics of my camera, I started doing more shoots inside the house using common household objects as my prime subject.
I have more to learn about lighting so right after this current workshop, the next class I plan to sign up for is studio lighting techniques. And although most of the information is now available online, there’s still nothing better than the actual hands-on learning process.

Photography has become an effective stress reliever for me, Tito -- a sort of solace. This is why I keep thinking of ways to enjoy it inside the house with found objects.
I read your entry about DIY remote cntrol. I'm still waiting for the availability of remote shutter release for my D80 -- kaya nga di ako kumuha ng mga firework shots kasi wala akong remote device.
VA? Hahaha! Naglalaro lang naman ako.- Señor Enrique said...
Thanks, BW.
I'm telling you, photography can be more than the usual stuff we know how. So many cool things you can shoot even inside the house -- kaya start knowing about exposure na din. You're lucky ... you're in a city with great bookstores with a huge inventory of great photography books!
Great stress reliever din ang hobby na ito!- said...
Ay, ang cute nito! I like the last pic.. parang totoo siya!
Okay.. gotta go now. Snap back to my real world... tama na muna blog reading or I might be reprimanded again. LOL!- Paulding said...

I agree. Strip the others of their superhuman powers and they puff out.- said...
The result is just awesome; like it ain't homemade at all but from some mvie company studio.
BTW, it's good you point out that Batman had no superhuman powers and it's true indeed; although I've never realize that before.- Sidney said...
Now Batman as model in your home, then studio lightning techniques in a studio and soon you will be taking pictures of sexy fashion models & moviestars! :-)
You now where to find an assistant!- said...
senor, you're getting very addicted to photography and it shows thru posts! hehehe.. anyway, it's good that you're experimenting and getting better to this field. keep it up!
hope to see you once again and shoot before i leave manila. :)- christine said...
That is genius!! I am definitely gonna try this especially for those very sensitive food shots. Thank you so much for this idea. I look forward to more! ;)

Thanks, Rhoda. I really enjoy doing this the other night. It was a wonderful excuse for me to play with those toys ... hehehe.
Thank you, Paulding and aCey!!!
Thanks, Major Tom, but there's much that can be done to make it better. Nonetheless, I had a fun time doing it. Yes, Batman has no superhuman powers as Rhoda had also pointed out :)
Hahaha! That's funny, Sidney! I'll give Bob Razon of the famous Bob's Studio a run for his money, right? Lol!
Thanks, Jeff, but they're still not as innovative as your shots, which I use as inspiration. Sent you an email.
I must confess, Christine ... this was no original idea of mine. I had learned this technique from fellow photographers by stalking their forums.
For foof shots, you might want to tray ther felt paper color as well. They're quite inexpensive at National Bookstore.- said...
I hope I have the same perseverance that you have. You're a great photographer and will be one of the best, no doubt about that! :)

Ah, one small studio!
That's a cool picture Eric. Ang galing!
(:
Have a blessed weekend!- said...
You're learning a lot and getting better everytime. When Reggie was still small, Batman was the coolest toy. We still have Batman toys lying around here pero hindi na gaanong pansin nung 2 maliit. I also didn't realize that Batman doesn't have superhuman powers.

Thanks, LAR ... though I may have the perseverance, being great and one of the best may not be for a very long time. We have many incredibly talented local photographers, indeed. But I shall take your kind words as inspiration :)

Yes, Kyels, my mini studio ... hehehe! Thanks and you have a good one, too!
Many thanks, Irene. I like Batman beause he's incredibly wealthy and safeguards what is right and moral in Gotham. And although we have may potential Batmans in Manila, unfortnately, they're more concerned about enlarging their wealth no matter what. Perhaps, this is why I'm fascinated by Batman to this day.- said...
That's a nice shot of the Bat. Sweet.

Hi Eric, I just want you to know that I tagged you - 5 things you might not want to know about me.

Haha! Can't help but snicker due to the topic. Batman is also my favorite superhero; because, aside from the reasons you've mentioned, he has lots of hi-tech gadgets and he has this cool dark attitude.

Thanks, baddie. I really enjoyed doing this. Hmmmm....I might do a photo shoot next with Superman :)
Oh, ok, Irene. I'll work and post it as soon as I'm able :)
I bet you didn't expect to ever see Batman being the central figure of my entry, right, Dave? Hehehe. Yes, he does have all those cool gadgets. :)- said...
i am impressed by your works. parang nakikita ko na magkakaroon ka ng sarili mong studio! keep it up.

Thank you, Iskoo. Pagnagka-totoo ang hinala mo, kunin kitang assistant kahit part time para we can all have fun ... hehehe :)
