PHOTOWORLD 2007 at GLORIETTA
There's a wonderful event going on in Metro Manila -- Photoworld 2007 -- from Thursday, February 1st to Monday, February 5th, sponsored by the Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation (FPPF). There are scheduled talks to be given by reknowned local photographers, as well as by those from abroad. They are being held at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati City.
Over at Glorietta's activity center is a trade fair of sorts participated by various manufacturers and distributors of photography products. With discounted prices and zero interest on credit card purchases, this may be the ideal time to buy those much longed for photography equipment and accessories.
There are also many special activities sponsored by the major companies such as Columbia Digital Sales, exclusive distributor of Nikon products in the Philippines. It is hosting a series of casual lectures to be presented by some of our top photographers in the world of fashion, wedding and celebrity portraiture. For Friday evening, it was Lito Sy who shared his winning styles and innovative techniques in wedding photography (top photo). Members of the audience were later on given the chance to ask some questions.
This Saturday evening, it will be fashion photography as presented by Xander Angeles. And for Sunday, it will be a double treat: Patrick Uy will discuss wedding photography and portraiture, while Dominic James on celebrity portraiture.
For those seriously considering to pursue a career in wedding or fashion photography, attending this series of casual lectures is highly recommended. It is, unarguably, a rare opportunity.

Naalala ko tuloy 'yung isa kong pamangkin, siya ang photographer minsan sa family Christmas dinner - later when we were looking at the pics, hinahanap niya ang mukha niya, bakit daw wala siya. Hehehe.
Wish ko lang, sana may time din akong mag attend ng mga ganito. :(-

Señor Enrique said... That is most often the case, Rhoda -- once you become "the photographer," rarely will you become the subject; always behind the viewfinder na lang labas mo.
I guess with your hectic schedule, baka sa summer ka na lang makaka-attend ng mga ganitong kalokohan. Ay, I mean .... kasayahan :)-

It's a fun place to be at LAR, especially f you're a bonafide shutter bug! Masaya! Try to attend the Nikon lecture; it's really worth the effort.

Love to see the new breed of Pinoy photographers. I am from the generation of Jun De Leon, Manny Goloyugo, Ralph Tonggol, Pancho Escaler, Nestor fernandez..that is if you remember any of these names at all. Is Mandy Navasero still active in photography? Do you know Wendy (Upeng) Basilio? We all went to the same school in Santa Barbara, California. I'm pretty impressed with your classic black and white photos!

Incidentally, I bumped upon a photo exhibition in Glorietta in Feb 0f 2005 and I'm not sure if it is the same organization but at that time I wasn't too much into photography - I didn't have a blog yet for one :)
Here's the thing that's bothering me now. Fuji came out lately with the F31FD, a digital compact version of the zoom camera S600FD which I bought last Nov. The FD
( Face Detection) technology was introduced first in the S600FD in July06. I'm now thinking of buying the F31 which is the new FD version of the TIPA award winning F30 - 2006 best compact digital camera. I find digital compact cameras very handy esp for indoor shots. I hate lugging around large camera indoors :) Maybe it is laziness, but photography sure does make you spend money :)-

Many thanks, Noypete's! I'm afraid I don't know any of those personalities you've mentioned. That is because of my long absence from the country. I have, however, taken note of the names and will ask local professional photographers I know about them.

Hi Iskoo! I think the 30D will soon come down in price, so better wait 'til then. Tito (Tutubi) and I kept missing each other. He's the only blogger I know of who planned on attending this event.

That was probably the same event, BW. Like you, I wasn't much into photography then.
I love my point & shoot camera. Actually, on my first day to go to this event, I brought it with me instead of the dSLR.
BTW, Canon has just released its 10 megapixel point & shoot digicam.-

Yes, Belle, I'm really enjoying this hobby a lot. Only problem is, you end up behind the viewfinder lots.
