CELEBRATING OUR TRUE COLORS
Woke up this morning convinced that the rains had finally subsided as evidenced by the sun peeking through the remaining dark clouds; however, at around nine, it started to rain once again. These five straight days of intense downpours may have solved our impending drought dilemma, but they can be a bummer as well. There's nothing to do but to stay inside the house and raid the fridge every now and then. Some photography enthusiast friends made the best of the situation by going out to document the effects of this recent typhoon, but I wasn't one to join them. I've decided not to fill my consciousness with scenes of flooding and gloom; I've opted instead for images of bright, fun colors.
So for this Sunday's post, I've put together some photos that celebrate our local true colors with the hope that they help brighten your day as well.

It's like singing with Julie Andrews:
"When the dog bites,
When the bee stings,
When I'm feeling sad...
I simply remember my favorite things.
And then I don't feel... so sad!"
I love the rain though. It brings more luster and more color to plants. The greens become greener. I just love having a ride along the countryside after the rain. Glorious! :)
Great photos! The first one is my fave.- Sidney said...

When I saw this scene, Kyels, I was just compelled to take a pic of it because of its wonderful color contrasts.

Rain can be nice and romantic, I know, Rhoda, but continual downpours is altogether another issue ... hehehe. No place to go :(

When it's gloomy and rainy, I long for colors, Sidney.

Thanks, Carla! That pic you like was taken in a walkway from Greenbelt heading to Glorietta.

Yes, rains can be romantic, but I'm talking about intermittent rains only, not incessant downpour, Eric. hehehe.
Know what? In 1972, I was a freshman college student in Baguio then, it rained continuously for ONE WHOLE MONTH in Luzon. No kidding! Classes were suspended for four straight weeks. It was scary. The sky was forever gloomy and dark and rains non stop. It felt like the end of the world already. And to think that was many years ago when our mountains were still thriving with trees and environment was not yet as deteriorated as now - and thus flooding was still containable.
Then there was a huge landslide that buried almost half of our dorm building. Thankfully, most student residents, including me, were in school having classes that time, so there were no casualties whatsoever and those few who were trapped inside were successfully rescued. We had to stay at Teachers' Camp until the dorm was fully repaired and declared safe for occupancy.
With this present worsened state of the environs... imagine what may happen if such a natural disaster as continuous rains would happen again. God, please forbid.- Señor Enrique said...
It rained for almost a month during my first year here in Manila, Rhoda. It was at one point depressing not to see any sunlight for that extended period of time.
That was quite fortunate that you were in your classes when that landslide buried most of your dorm, jeez. What a scary ordeal that must have been.
I also hope and pray that such calamities do not befall upon us.- ladybug said...

Ah yes, like last year when the rains were getting into me I decided to write a series of posts about my summer adventures. Good thing this year I'm not that moody yet, because I find my beach escapades last summer quite wanting compared to last year.
Rhoda's comment reminded me of the part in Gabriel Garcia Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solutide where the town of Macondo experience nonstop rain for an entire decade.- Señor Enrique said...
There is that place in Alaska, I think, in which the sun doesn't shine in some period of time; however, there is a psychiatrist provided by the state to live in the town so as to serve those who may not be able to cope with such lengthy period of darkness.
A hundred years of rain? Put it this way, by the third week of incessant rains, I was tempted to go back to NY for sanity's sake.- pusa said...

Thank you, Belle.
The image reflected by the puddle in this picture was what I used as lead photo in my entry, "The Night Manila Rattled and Rolled."
