WET HARBOR

This evening scene of Harbor Square in the PICC complex reflects the continual rains in the Metropolitan Manila area since the past few days. Although not of torrential intensity, the rains nonetheless keep many folks flocking to the drier, more comfortable confines of the shopping malls, while others simply favor remaining inside their homes.

Meanwhile, over in Baywalk, the photos below typify what is now its more tranquil landscape. Gone are the eateries and live music performances, as well as the usual crowd of nighttime revelers.

However, found out through Carlos Celdran's post that Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano will be working closely with Mayor Lim in developing Intramuros as the new tourist destination following the closure of entertainment establishments along the city’s Baywalk promenade area. New restaurants and live entertainment venues are being planned to be opened in this historic Walled City.

I can relate to that. I've been stuck at home because of the weather.

Add to that, even security guard, police and the likes are a little more paranoid of the Red Alert status being implemented now a days because of the terrorists.

Even in Intramuros, I was asked for a permit.

Being stuck at home due to the weather can sometimes be boring unless we have activities to occupy ourselves. But more than often, it's nice to actually rest and stay at home.

Nice photo!

nice photos. people are tenacious. they will find a way to revitalize the baywalk. it would have a seasonal theme of sorts, i hope, to accommodate the weather.

Rains tend to minimize the already limited photo shooting opportunities, Photowalker. I do notice the surprising presence of policemen patrolling the downtown area these days.

That's true, Kyels. I can imagine also how crowded the local computer shops are with the influx of kids wanting to play those network or Internet computer games.

I sure hope so, Photo Cache. I can't wait to see what the mayor has in mind for Baywalk :)

Senor, PICC is the one near Harrison Plaza? and since you mentioned baywalk then it means thats near Manila Bay nga, havent been there for a long time and as usual your photos make me recall good memories... Japanese films, Painting exhibits, Writing Seminars are what I recall. I saw a number of Baywalk photos from friends and I say thats really a nice thing to see than what I was used too (eg. beggars and hookers) in that area, too bad they might be coming back. =(

Rains for me (or snow) means photos are limited to my favorite subjects, my kids... =)

Yes, your memory of PICC remains sharp as ever, G. Mirage :)

Possibly, that is, if Mayor doesn't put into place the changes he envisioned to breathe life once again in Baywalk. Would be a shame to see nothing but a band of vagrants and hookers once again frequenting this area :(

I've seen some new photos of Baywalk after the stalls were removed. It looks better now. Just my opinion.
Naabutan na ako ng ulan diyan when I was working in CCP during my college days. Nagtampisaw na lang kami kasama ang mga bata na nakatira along the breakwater.
I hope discipline would prevail again along that area and the presence of cops, kahit na kotong would at least deter some crimes.

They've just apprehended two former street vendors in the Baywalk area of stealing electric cables from a couple of lamp posts along Roxas Blvd., Reyd :) I say, they ought to arrest those merchants who buy these stolen items from these petty thieves as well.

I have a nephew who enjoys taking a shower in the rain so I can imagine the fun you had with those breakwater kids when you decided to simply enjoy the downpour :)

I heard that night spots will be re-opened in a designated area in Intramuros instead of Baywalk, Reyd. Sort of to revive the old walled city. Baywalk, on the other hand, will get franchised establishments like Jolibee and McDos -- wholesome and family-oriented eateries.
