I used to munch on peanuts while reviewing for exams. Then also, when I was pregnant, my sister advised me to eat peanuts para daw matalino ang anak ko. Brain food daw kasi ang peanuts. Don't know if it's coincidence, but modesty aside, matalino nga ang mga anak ko. hehehe.
Turns out however that there is no such thing as brain food. :(- NOYPETES said...
Paborito kong snack sa harap ng TV pag may magandang BBall game!
My Vietnamese co-worker introduced me to a spicy hot peanut mixed with 3 different kinds of chilli with garlic and ground sea salt fried in Canola oil...napakasarap!
Ah, this reminds me of a blog entry that I need to write lol. I rarely eat nuts, cashews and almonds yes, others not much unless they're made into chocolates lol. Where is this taken po?

I'll never get tired of eating adobong mani. More so now that I'm armed with the information that they help prevent cardiovascular diseases.
Thanks for sharing this info, Eric.- said...
Philippine grown peanuts are puny and after a few, I got tired of shelling them. Their small size made up for the texture and taste American grown peanuts lack of.

wow! those peanuts look like they would jump out of the screen! I like the sungsong type---I don't know why once you pop one in the mouth, you can't stop---healthier than Pringles :-)! Love the peanuts sold by the hawkers too although I don't eat them much since I found out they recycle oil a lot. So I have learned to cook them myself and then mix them with cashew, raisins and the usual mixed nuts pack. Heaven!

Peanuts and beer provide me the best company when I am watching TV from my armchair :) I love the Pinoy version of peanuts - salt and fried garlic but they're not available here. I've learned to like salt free peanuts which I think is healthier :)

There's always a container of garlic peanuts on my desk. I munch it while working, people would drop by my desk to get a handful. Medyo tinigilan ko na lately...nakakataas daw ng uric acid.:) And when stuck in traffic, masaya yong may nginunguyang nilagang mani.:D

It's interesting how many folks associate peanuts with being smart, Rhoda. Could it be that elephants love peanuts and they're know for having incredible memory?
Having very smart kids is indeed a blessing :)- Señor Enrique said...
I thought maning sungsong are the roasted ones, not the boiled -- I love both, nevertheless.
There used to be a bar in New York's Greenwich Village where they served free roasted peanuts; patrons would throw the shells on the floor. These were never swept clean so the shells became part of the bar's decor ... hehehe.- Señor Enrique said...
Cashews are one of my favorite munchies, G. Mirage! I used to buy a large container at Cosco's in NYC. Love them :)

My pleasure, Panaderos.
I always try to keep some peanuts around as snacks. Actually, I prefer them more so than those potato chips. Glad to know of their health benefits.- Señor Enrique said...
I did notice, Anonymous, how the Philippine peanuts seem much smaller than those grown in the States. But you're right, the local ones are tastier :)

Unfortunately, Nutart, street vendors tend to hold on to their old instead of replacing them afater a certain number of use.
Yes, those mixed nuts are heavenly!- Señor Enrique said...
My all-time favorite is Planter's lightly salted roasted peanuts, BW. Every now and then, SM Supermarket would carry them. They cost about P300 here, but I just couldn't resist ... hehehe.

Baliktad tayo, Lino. I am one of those who prefer the "hubad" ones :) But would gladly munch on the other kind if served, especially with a chilled bottle of brew.

Welcome to the clu, Sidney. I love peanuts. Actually my sister teases me about it :)

Nilagang mani is my mom's favorite, Luna. She can munch on them like there's no tomorrow ... hehehe.
They say that salted peanuts tend to make some folks gain weight.- said...
Pinaglihi raw ako sa mani, guess that's why I grew up smart enough. I do enjoy munching on them nonstop. I also like the fried garlic that I look for them first, hehe.

Aha! No wonder your a smart guy, Dave ... hehehe!
Just about ran out of the half kilo I bought in Quiapo last week. Time to buy another :)
