I like brass bands and the music they make that often when I was a child, It would be one very exciting moment for me to see and hear the gregarious band pass by in a street parade.

I once auditioned in our college band about a decade ago but got no luck in it. Can't seem to blow into a horn instrument so properly and all I've gotten then was horrendous saliva that got stuck in the instrument if one wouldn't really know how to blow into it.

I got to enjoy the music by John Philip Sousa as well as those by other composers, Major Tom, on account of my father having a collection of which. He'd often play them on weekends; thus, marching music also became a soundtrack of my growing up years.

Anyway, I was very much astonished when the FEU Band didn't play any marching music during this afternoon of jazz music. Instead, they played an enchanting repertoire of rhythm & blues. Their rendition, simply put, was superb!

Later on I found out that the FEU Band is one of the leading and award-winning drum and bugle bands in the country. These guys are really a talented bunch!

wow! I could hear them now... :-)
Nice set of photos, Eric! I can see from the shining brass instruments, the impeccable uniforms and neat looks of these players (as well as from your praises) that they have been well trained indeed! Kudos to their band leader as well!

Mar Togado is its band director, Bernadette. He is the man behind the great success now being enjoyed by the FEU Band.

I will post more entries on this band and Mar Togado because I plan to attend some of its Manila area competitions in the near future.

Incidentally, I was told that all band members (both high school & college levels) receive full scholarship, which I think is a fun way of attending achool; not to mention that FEU isn't bad at all. My father and a brother were graduates of which.

Thanks, Bernadette, glad you like the pics!

My father spent a couple of years in college at FEU and I took my CPA exams in one of FEU's college buildings. Thus, anything related to that school has some sentimental value with me. I'm glad for FEU that they have one of the country's best brass bands. This was a very good school back in the day and I'm glad that it's working its way back to prominence.

I knew I'm going to miss this. Thanks for sharing these photo shoots of the FEU DBC, it makes me feel right there. I forgot to mention, their former band leader was a childhood friend of my brother when we were still in San Juan, Rizal. And during my stints in FEU, I was really impressed with their performances.
They really look good now since their old uniforms used to be the Boy Scout uniforms, well, they started as FEU Boy Scout Drum and Bugle Corps. I hope of more success on their future.

Wow! Another case of six degrees of separation we have here, Reyd!

Indeed a very talented band and I hope to see more of their performances during the next school year :)

Their current band director is also a talented and dedicated man.
