Bananas & Dalandan
The definition of still life in the realm of photography means an object or group of objects that are arranged as a pictorial composition. And the rule of thumb is simplicity. What I like most about still life photography is that I can practice it at any time.
Two Shells
I have about a dozen shells which I had collected from the beaches of Subic, Zambales. For this shot, I picked-out two and placed them on these pebbles which are sold at any garden supply stores. These are often poured on top of the soil of various potted plants to make them look more attractive. I grabbed a couple of handfuls of these pebbles and spread them on top of a picnic table. I then put these two shells on top as my still life subject. This photograph and the one on top used only natural and available light.
The Photo Book
This book on photography I had recommended to fellow members of an online camera club. I thought the best way to do so was take a picture of it to post along with my recommendation. For this particular capture, I placed the book on top of a wooden decorative platter and photographed it by just using a single desk lamp.
mabuti pa ang inanimate object.. walang reklamo ! :) Lighting evaluation is what makes photography fun.
ReplyDeleteA trip to the zoo might be fun as well. Kelan ka nakarinig ng elepanteng nagreklamo ? :) There is this zoo that we went to before 'Avalon Zoo' somewhere in marikina ata. Do a google search for instructions on how to get there. One of the nicer zoo's that we have. Dress light and wear comfortable clothes lang.
Regarding my earlier comment, Its not shutter priority, Read up on the AF- modes, AF-S will not fire if focus is not acquired, AF-C will fire regardless of focus lock attained or not.

I jjust tried shutter priority mode, S.A., went out in the yard and took several shots in rapid succession -- it works! Next time I do model shoots, will set it at this mode. Might even use this instead of auto tomorow when I hook up with the guys to do a bit of street photography!

Great pictures bro; certainly they are as professional as what could possibly be and that's the first impression anyone should have. I bet in still life, lighting is the most primordial in consideration, to bring out the remarkable colors and then harness the proper shadowing to it.

By the way, since learning more about lighting in still photography, everytime I watch a movie or one of those glossy TV series on cable, I now appreciate even more the way they light and make use of shadows (as you had mentioned) with each scene that they shoot, especially scenes with interior settings.

Eric, how come the Dalandan(s) looked similar to Ponkan(s) ... Just wondering.

They do, Kyels, but these are much bigger than the Taiwanese ponkan I had previously featured. They're also mostly all green in color.

ReplyDeleteThanks, BW! The garden pebbles somehow made it look authentic. But I think the real reason you like this photo is because you're craving for the warm tropical beaches; considering the -25 degree weather you're having in Canada now ... hehehe!

ReplyDeleteSenor - i'm glad i've extricated myself from that Alberta Chinook weather :) now I am back home, to a much reasonable and bearable weather LOL.. I'm headed to a much warmer and sunny place over the Xmas holidays to get a little tan, shoot some photos, relax and never think about jackets, toques and mittens -translated.. get a life.. he he :)
