ON UNCONDITIONAL LOVE
For love's the greatest healer to be found
So leave me if you need to
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground
Fly on past the speed of sound
I'd rather see you up
Than see you down
Ever had one of those days in which an old tune permeated your consciousness? Well, for the past two days, I couldn't seem to shake off Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground, by Willie Nelson.
Both the song's melody and lyrics, though seemingly simplistic at first, can be quite empowering, especially for the subject of this exalting sentiment. Nonetheless, it takes someone who has experienced or embodied unconditional love to appreciate the healing power of this song.

Senor Enrique,
May I say that your posts from last year are very interesting. I feel that you really made an effort to do some research on the subjects (ongpin, sta cruz, the chinese diaspora, etc.).
When I was in Tokyo, your essays kept me up late even on weekdays. Your compositions made me miss Manila and showed me a different dimension of the city.
I hope you make more of these posts in the future.
Thank you.- said...
It definitely is a beautiful song Eric. Love the lyrics; very inspiring in a way.

Hello Basey!

Isn't it, Kyels? Wouldn't if be great if those who love us, love us in such empowering ways and none of these possessive stuff ... hehehe.

Thank you so much, Anonymous.
I missed this year's book fair in Manila in which almost every publisher, including smaller, obsure ones, put up an exhibit. This a great place for me to get a hold of interesting Filipiniana books not readily available in major bookstores.
Nonetheless, once I get new materials, I will once again posts such essays.
Again, thank you!- said...
funny how good prose can make one understand what one cannot explain easily within oneself. Unconditional love can be so natural in others and just so damned hard for the rest to understand. I am a witness to quite a number of these beautiful souls who love in a transcendental manner. Nakakainggit talaga!
I relish going to La Solidaridad bookstore in the UN ave.(?) or was that another road thereabouts. I just know where it is...andun pa ba? They specialize in Filipiniana books---a treasure trove!- Señor Enrique said...
I sometimes go to the restaurant in the lobby of the Jade Vine Hotel along UN Avenue, Bernadette -- excellent kare-kare they have! Should I find myself there for lunch one of these days, I'll walk around the area and search for this bookstore. Thanks for the tip!
Yes, I think the world will be a tremendously idyllic place if a great majority practices unconditional love. Perhaps, I, too, will someday embody it completely :)- said...
I think that the only time a person completely embodies unconditional love - is when he/she falls in love for the first time. That is - as far as I have experienced. :)
As a saying goes - when a girl falls in love for the first time, it is the person she truly loves; but with the rest - she is just in love with love.
But then again - I may be wrong.- Señor Enrique said...
I just thought of that old classic tune by Marlene Dietrich, Rhoda, which goes:
Falling in love again
Never wanted to
What am I to do?
I can't help it
Love's always been my game
Play it as I may
I was born that way
Can't help it
Men flock around me
Like moths around a flame
And if their wings burn
I know I'm not to blame- dodong flores 도동 플로오리스 said...
