I was there too. It was a very educational shoot for photographers.
Shooting in Natural Daylight

It was really unfortunate that the rain had to drench and delay the celebrations.
The street dance competition was hell for a lot of photographers. A lot of us were not able to shoot the street dance contest because of so many people. Some were even up on the trees.-

Yes, lots of pretty women in yesterday's Aliwan Fiesta! Their floats, performances and rhythm created by their precusion bands were simply incredible. Dazzling, in fact.-

Hi Photowalker!
Enjoyed the pre-rain shoot. It was fun. However, the late after-rain parade was quite challenging. I particularly do not enjoy taking pictures of moving subjects under low light conditions; unless I wanted some artsy takes ... hehehe.
I simply wouldn't bring out my dSLR when it's raining -- it's not weather-sealed.
Great festival but the organizers don't rate as well when it comes to crowd control. Oh well ...-

I've noticed the upsurge of carnivals like this in the country. Once upon a time we only have the authentic Ati-atihan in the Panay island now we have a few of them around :)-

Nice pics of the pre-parade. Was there too amid the festivities. Got my pix too of a colorful presentation. At least Filipinos showed a typical characteristic of theirs last Saturday. Resilience or the ability to bounce back despite an adversity. Thanks! More pics to come!

Hey BW! Interesting point you raised. As someone had said, "Every day, there is one festival going on somewhere in the Philippines.
What also comes to mind is Rio's grand carnival which takes about a whole year for many of the participating samba schools to prepare for. A Brazilian friend of mine remarked that such preoccupation assuages certain misery in life.
Same reason, I guess, for some local folks.-

Yes, they really go all out not only with their finely choreographed dance routines, but with their costumes and make-up as well.
Unfortunately, there are local media organizations who get orgasmic pleasures when it comes to infringing copyright laws ... hehehe.-

I've spoken to some teachers and guardians of some of these young performers who admitted they all got drenched by the sudden storm-like rain. Personally, if I were a parent of one, I would have pulled out my kid and gone home. Wouldn't want my child to die of pneumonia or something ... hehehe.
But the show must go on, as they say :)-

The earlier the better for this grand parade. It'd also give all the participants brief moments of rest in between.
Photographers can also take advantage of natural light :)
