Please note:
I very much appreciate my articles and photos appearing on fellow bloggers' sites, popular broadsheets, and local broadcast news segments, but I would appreciate even more a request for permission first.
Thank you!

It is good to know that calesas are still around picking up non-tourist riders. My grandma preferred to ride them on short trips. They used to be called "King of the road" in the old days.

Indeed, the calesas are still around, bertN. I try to ride one whenever possible. Love 'em!

Senor Enrique, I was in Sta. Cruz last Friday. We could have bumped into each other without us knowing.

I was there to take pictures of calesas for my Friday write-up.

What I like about Sta. Cruz is the old feel. I remember when I was a child when my entire family would go to Sta. Cruz Church to hear the first mass for Sunday. We live in QC but my parents had this fondness on going to churches outside our parish.

Yes, Traveler, we could've run into each other, indeed! I'd better check out your Friday write-up :)

By the way, I was born and grew up in the Sta. Cruz district of Manila but closer to Espiritu Santo Church than the downtown area.

Hindi, donG, but would love to. Madalas lang kasi ako dumadaan dito sa Sta. Cruz kaya I take pictures of the street scenes whenever possible :)

I lived in Santa Cruz when I was a kid. My family left in 1968, so I really enjoy looking at the pictures. Hopefully my planned visit in July comes to fruition and I get to ride a calesa. I'm glad they're still being used! I remember riding in one as a kid.

You've been away a long time, Heidi, better bring along a guide with you because Manila has changed so much since then.

Unfortunately, some of the street names had also been changed which may only add to your confusion.

But other than that, even without the once glamorous Avenida Rizal, Santa Cruz, especially its church, should remain to be a good place to visit.
