NUEVA STREET IN BINONDO
Originally named Calle Duque, it was changed to Nueva, meaning "new" in Spanish as the street was newly built in 1863 to ease the traffic congestion on Quintin Paredes Street (formerly Rosario) caused by the repair work on Puente de España (now Jones Bridge) after it was damaged by an earthquake.
Nueva was then renamed Yuchengco Street after Enrique Yuchengco, Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations and an incredibly rich businessman who founded the Yuchengco Group of Companies based in Makati City.

This was the corner of Escolta and Nueva; thus, way too far from Avenida's LRT, Anonymous.

Lol ... pero, Pete, ingat sa pagtanong sa mga tambay kasi kung minsan ituturo ka sa maling direksiyon. Kung may inuman naman, mamaya magkahulihan, sabit ka pa ... hehehe.

Calles (Nueva, Rosario and Sto. Cristo) during the early times has more Chinese establishment than Ongpin(formerly Sacrista). Mas Chinese sounding lang siguro ang Ongpin kaya naging prominent Chinatown street ito ng Manila during the commonwealth days.
Inabutan ko pa ata yang mga kanto boys na yan sa Rosario, most of them are cargadors of textile stores and other merchandises.
May father used to work in Rosario, kaya madalas kaming pumupunta sa opisina niya when I was still young and most of my sibling's god-parents has businesses along Binondo area.
Nilalakad ko lang yan Calle Nueva from Recto/Ilaya to get something to eat from Tasty's or Sincerity. :D-

Ako din, Reyd, nilalakad ko lang mula Binondo Church hanggang sa University Belt area. Nakakaaliw namang lakarin kasi malinis ang mga kalye at madami ding nakikitang mga paninda sa mga nadadaana.
Noong bata ako, ang mga tambay na nakikita ko madalas ay sa may tapat ng Banco Filipino sa may Sta. Cruz Church, mga fixer daw yung mga yun.
Sana hindi nila pinalitan ang pangalan ng Nueva, Rosario at Sacrista. Binigyan na lamang sana nila ng plza si Ongpin.
