PHOTO EXHIBIT: CHEMA MADOZ

His photographs can be interpreted as poetry in varying degrees. They can be read as poetry, appreciated intellectually, or perceived aesthetically. Chema Madoz has devised his own language of expression; tackling his subject in one of three ways: as found, manipulated, or recreated in his studio.

Commissioned by Catherine Coleman and organized jointly by the Instituto Cervantes and the Ministry of Culture of Spain, the exhibition features more than 40 recent images by this distinguished Spanish photographer.

Chema Madoz (Madrid, 1958) is currently one of the most important exhibitors of Spanish photography. In this recent works, he highlights daily routines by way of metaphors and visual display; directing the viewer's attention to new perspectives of seeing what is hidden or what has occurred unnoticed.

Love the first photo... reminds me of the Sculpture by the Sea I photograph just last weekend.

I am still thinking what the Chema is trying to tell us with these pair of shoes tied together?

Great post and looks like a great exhibition.

"Poised between poetry, surrealism and a smile, Chema Madoz reveals a world in which the absurd observes us at every moment. His photos contain the world in a small envelope or a tiny wooden box. They have as their subject objects stripped of their primary function. Behind their usual appearance, their strangeness is revealed and makes us question what is normal.... More Chema Madoz was born January 20, 1958, in Madrid. His work, known throughout the world, was finally recognized in 1991 with the Kodak Prize for European Photography."

Looks like his photographs are installations and sculptures (unless they've been Photo Shopped) and then a picture was taken for posterity...

It is a beautiful, modern building, El Cineasta. The facilities are very nice, too, which inspired me to someday brush-up my Spanish by taking intro classes again. Very nice setting, indeed.

Yes, I plan to check out your library's Filipiniana collection!

Hola Señor,

The design is modern. It was envisioned and conceptualized by Jaime Galván, our previous director who is now in Spain. He is also known for being an art-lover and loves visiting the Philippine countryside.

You may ask for the Chief Librarian, Manolo López, for books and you may ask for assistance regarding their Filipiniana collection.

I will post some news very soon regarding "La Navidad".

Hasta luego.

Hi El Cineasta!

Yes, I was told by the nice librarian that all I have to do is browse through their database, but their Filipiniana collection is not to be taken outside of the facility. But that's ok with me :)

A very nice and comfortable library, it also offers Wi-Fi!

I'll definitely make good use of its library!

Thank you!
