Sila-sila’y nagtatagpo, kayu-kayo’y nagpapangkat
Sila-sila’y nagtatagpo, kayu-kayo’y nagpapangkat
Isang diwa ang nagpasya, isang wika ang ginamit
Wikang Pilipino! Wikang maka-Diyos, makabayan, makatao
Wikang naglalagos sa isipang makabansa
Wikang nanunuot sa damdaming makalupa
At paisa-isang dila, parami-raming labi, sama-samang tinig
Bumubulong, sumasatsat, humihiyaw, nagngangalit
Hinihingi’y kalayaan! Katarungan! Kalayaan! Katarungan!
Wikang Pilipino! Wikang maka-Diyos, makabayan, makatao
Wikang naglalagos sa isipang makabansa
Wikang nanunuot sa damdaming makalupa
At paisa-isang dila, parami-raming labi, sama-samang tinig
Bumubulong, sumasatsat, humihiyaw, nagngangalit
Hinihingi’y kalayaan! Katarungan! Kalayaan! Katarungan!
Hanggang saan susukatin?
Hanggang kalian bubuhayin?
Hanggang kalian maaangkin?
Layang mangausap, layang sumulat
Layang mamuhay, layang manalig
Layang humahalakhak, layang mangarap,
Layang maghimagsik
Maghimagsik! Maghimagsik! Maghimagsik!
Hanggang kalian bubuhayin?
Hanggang kalian maaangkin?
Layang mangausap, layang sumulat
Layang mamuhay, layang manalig
Layang humahalakhak, layang mangarap,
Layang maghimagsik
Maghimagsik! Maghimagsik! Maghimagsik!
A, parang isang pangarap, parang isang panaginip
Kasaysayan pala’y mababago isang saglit
Sa dakong silangan … doon sa silangan
Ang sikat ng araw … sumilip, sumikat, uminit
Sari-saring mukha, magkakabalat, magkakadugo, magkakapatid
Sama-samng gumising, magkakapit-bisig, nag-alsa’t tumindig
Lakas ng tao! Lakas ng bayan! Lakas ng daigdig!
Laban sa tirano, sa gahaman, sa mapanupil, sa mapan-lupig
Kasaysayan pala’y mababago isang saglit
Sa dakong silangan … doon sa silangan
Ang sikat ng araw … sumilip, sumikat, uminit
Sari-saring mukha, magkakabalat, magkakadugo, magkakapatid
Sama-samng gumising, magkakapit-bisig, nag-alsa’t tumindig
Lakas ng tao! Lakas ng bayan! Lakas ng daigdig!
Laban sa tirano, sa gahaman, sa mapanupil, sa mapan-lupig
Bata’t matanda, propesyonal at di propesyonal
Manggagawa, kawani, guro, mangangalakal
Mangigisda’t magbubukid, pari, madre, iskolar
Sundalo, pulis, drayber, estudyante, istambay
A, lahat-lahat na
Sa sama-samang tinig, sa sama-samang lakas
Nagkakaisa, nagkasama
Nagkasama, nagkaisa
Mga bagon bayani ng Bagong Republika
Manggagawa, kawani, guro, mangangalakal
Mangigisda’t magbubukid, pari, madre, iskolar
Sundalo, pulis, drayber, estudyante, istambay
A, lahat-lahat na
Sa sama-samang tinig, sa sama-samang lakas
Nagkakaisa, nagkasama
Nagkasama, nagkaisa
Mga bagon bayani ng Bagong Republika
At …
Dahil malaya
Dahil sa wika
Dahil sa lakas
Bagong kalayaa’y naririto ngayon
Sama-samang gigising, magkakapit bisig aalsa’t titindig
Sama-samang gigising, magkakapit bisig aalsa’t titindig
Lakas ng tao! Lakas ng bayan! Lakas ng daigdig!

Wow, you have some powerful images here. What an interpretation!
ReplyDeleteI'm telling you, Ipanema. These kids were serious about their art!
ReplyDeleteThis post, like a lot of your previous posts, takes me back to a time in my life that I have put on the back burner. I could tell you that our former students (I worked in an all-girl Catholic school) excelled in interpretative dances and performances. Too bad I dont have photos to remember them by. Nyway, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI went back to that school early this morning, Photo Cache, and they had another program (songs and dances) by other students.
ReplyDeleteThe teacher was so appreciative of my handing her a CD containing a copy of all the photos I took that Tuesday. Meanwhile, the copy of the poem she gave me, much to my surprise was neatly bound with plastic cover (to make it look nice and special).
I decided not to take anymore pictures of this morning's festivities; I thought I would leave it as a private occasion exclusively for the teachers' and students' enjoyment.
I'm glad these photos to helped bring back some of your wonderful memories :)
Eric, through this post I can even feel the euphoria; the pictures! Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteToo bad I do not understand the composition. It would be great if I could. Hmm.
(:
But nevertheless, it's good to see that the kids are serious about their art! Amazing.
Thanks much, Kyels! Have many more pictures but could only post a few.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we'll ask Melai of Manilenya to translate this for us :)
Ah, okay. Thanks!
ReplyDelete(:
Ang galing naman. Ng mga students and also yung mga shots mo. :)
ReplyDeleteI showed the pictures to my youngest son.
Mahuhusay talaga sil.
Wish I was there to see it! The photo with the faces painted white and the black sheet is intriguing.
ReplyDeleteActually, Aurea, although all the teams performed their respective interpretation exceedingly well, the make up, costume, and choreography of this white-faced group were the most enchanting.
ReplyDeleteMelai had submitted this poem to be translated to English at some online translation service. Once she sends it to me, I will post and exclusively use the photos of this group as accompanying images.
