THE STREET MECHANIC
A common sight in Metro Manila is that of mechanics performing automotive repairs right on the curb.
Came across this sight last Saturday while gallivanting on the streets of Manila during Canon's Shoot & Run event. This was actually my shooting buddy's choice of entry for the category of faces that is unique to Manila. I took a photo of it as well but for my own collection; however, the point of view I used was from the other side of the mechanic, which was against the light. I also used a flash unit for flash fill effect.

Hi Eric,
Just lurking every now and then. I may not post a comment often now, But i'm still watching. You've improved a lot with your shoots.- Iskoo said...
ok din pala kunan sa angle na ganito, yung ilalaim ng jeep, nagbibigay ng perspective, nakakadagdag sa ganda composition. pero siyepre di naagaw ang attention sa subject which is yung mekaniko.

Interesting composition here. Nice exposure, walang nag overblow na highlights, probably dahil nag fil-in flash ka. Overall it looks great!

Hi Rey! I still visit everyone's site as much as possible, too, but though I want to leave a comment, most beta blogger sites won't allow me to do just that anymore; as I've said, Blogger probably wants me to switch to beta.
Thanks for the compliment! As you've probably noticed, I've taken a break from those Manila history entries and segued into photography -- sort of more on images and less on words, for now, at least :)
Aside from taking classes on photography, I've been busy as well getting reacquanted with the Mac operating system (I've replaced my HP with a Macbook), as well as immersing myself on Photoshop. Hence, writing has to take a back seat for now. Jeeez ... I'm exhausted ... hehehe! However, like you, I just have to appease my soul ... and photography seems to be "it" for now.- Señor Enrique said...
Last Saturday I was able to put into practice what I once read; that is, "try to walk around your subject and appreciate the differences in its many points of view. Take as many shots from as many angles."
Thanks, Ferdz! Having joined Canon's event was a big help in terms of talking with other camera enthusiasts and learning some tricks of the trade from them, so to speak. I have to give my shooting buddy credit for helping me with shutter speeds and aperture. Darn, so much to learn! The more I learn, the less I know, ika nga ... hehehe!

Thanks, Carla!
By the way, email me your email address so I can share with you the schedule of an event that I will be attending. You and your brother may be interested to join.- said...
I wonder why is it nga in the Philippines, so many cars conk out in the middle of the streets. Even our own cars when I was in the Philippines would break down every now and then. Abroad, you don't see as many cars being repaired or flat tires changed on the road. Even here in Cambodia.
That was a nice shot Eric. It's nice that you could see beauty in the common things around us.- Señor Enrique said...
The only reason for this phenomenon that I could think of, Toe, is that maybe it is illegal in other countries to perform curbside auto mechanics. But not here in Manila.
Thank you for your kind words, Toe; made my day :)- Sidney said...
Hi Eric,
If you want to comment on the old blogger you need to use your old name and password.
To comment on blogger beta sites you need to open a "google" = gmail account.
(I like gmail because you never need to erase messages because you get a lot of space
You can also store your files online and they have a great online calendar.)
Anyway, you don't need to use your gmail account but you will use it for your name and password to comment on blogger beta sites.
You also don't need to switch to blogger beta. The only thing you need to do is to open a "google account" (=gmail)- Señor Enrique said...
Aha! So that's the trick, huh, Sidney? I already have a gmail account so I will try later on using my email address to log on to comment on beta blog sites. Many thanks for this tip!
BTW, I have an email to send you if not tonight, tomorrow. Perhaps, you can give me your thoughts on it when you come back from your vacation.
