AND THEN THERE WERE THREE

This is Muning with one of her kittens. I posted an entry about Muning last November, and since then she had given birth to three sets of kittens. Yes, Muning is one promiscuous pussycat.

Muning's first two sets of kittens never came down from the roof where they were born. Somehow, Muning found them a home; probably distributing each one in the other homes in the neighborhood. That was how we basically found her to begin with -- gazing at us from up on the roof. And then one day, when much bigger, she started to roam around the yard and eventually started earning her keep by transforming the entire area into rat-free zone. It has been that way ever since then; thanks much to Muning.

As for her latest brood, the third, since about a few weeks ago, she would bring them all down from the roof. There must have been six kittens . After an hour or so of allowing them to play, scrounge for food, and lounge around in the sun, she would, one by one, bring them back up on the roof. This went on for the next few days until there were only two left -- Mini Muning One and Mini Muning Two.

A friend of my mother wanted to take one to bring home so we decided to give her Mini Muning Two, but this kitten proved too feisty and elusive; evading all the chases and the traps we set out to ensare him or her (we still have no idea as for their sexes). Mini Muning One, on the other hand, is a friendly kitten and not at all afraid of us humans; this is the reason why I immediately grew fond of him/her.

Mini Muning One

Anyway, one afternoon, as I threw pieces of pandesal to Muning and Mini Muning One, I noticed that the latter would pick up a piece; disappear around the other side of the house; come back and would just then grab another piece to eat. So I walked over to where he/she might have gone and saw Mini Muning Two eating a piece of pandesal. I then realized how much Mini Muning One loves his/her sibling that I decided to just keep the both of them.

Once their respective sex has been determined, I will give them each a better name. Any suggestions?

Mini Muning Two

You made me smile with this post.

The kittens have three colors. That means good luck, so they say.

I am planning to dispose of Mama Cat and her kittens - they are getting to be a nuisance for me. They just love to stay by the door or the gate, that just this morning, when I arrived from the supermarket, I nearly stumbled down with the groceries and all when I stepped inside the gate, as they were all sprawled there probably sunbathing.

Problem however, is - my son, Aypee, who has grown fond of them, won't let me give them away. So then, I am waiting for the right time when he is on hospital duty or in school - and probably I can ask one of the tribike drivers here to get rid of them. What do you think? Will Aypee forgive me for this?

Hahaha ... oh, no! Some dilemma you got there, Rhoda.

I suggest a compromise: Just be more aware/alert of the ground when walking around so you won't trip when suddenly avoiding not to step on one of them. This way, there wouldn't be an even more annoying argument with Aypee should you dispose of these creatures without his consent ... hehehe.

These three cats also can be a nuisance, especially whenever they see me eating anything -- all their begging can be deafening. BUT there is not a single rat running around here anymore, and with pythons suddenly appearing all over Manila, these cats will prevent such unexpected visitor from intruding. I heard snakes are wary of cats :)

To alleviate all those excruciating meowing and begging, I will just buy them a big bag of cat food, but I better make sure I got one not produced in China ... hahaha!

I firmly believe that all creatures tiny and giant do communicate, that scenario alone is a manifestation.
Wish I can harness what's in the minds of these thoroughbreds when they are racing, mocking one another?, could be!,hehe....
Paris and Lohan if both are femmes.
Al and Fredo if studs, to honor the new mayor, joke lang mayor, hahaha...goodhealth..

Mocking one another? How about fixing the race itself among each other? Hehehe.

Yes, TruBlue. They all have inherent intelligence wired into their DNA, at least for survival purposes, if anything.

Thanks!

We used to have lots of cats at home with names like Tiger, Tony, medusa and others I already forgot. But they died one by one, and the younger ones disappeared one by one and make me wonder why at first but I thought the maids disposed of them one by one since it gets too smelly outside sometimes...

Now there are only about two cats in our compound, owned by neighbors in the next apartments...Inever knew their name.

About the name suggestion, how about Tom and Jerry if their both males? A little confusing siguro if whose the cat and the mouse-cat...he..he..

oh i love this post!!! and i love the picture of Mini Muning 1 gazing straight into the camera...

what about Micky and Minnie? In memory of all the mouse they will catch someday? Hehe...

Everytime we have puppies in our house in Pinas, hubby always calls them Sheila and "Hubby's Name". LOL!

Now, you got me wondering, Major Tom, where these three cats do their bathroom stuff, because we don't see or smell anything in the vicinity.

Tom and Jerry sounds cool to me if they're both males.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Now, that could get confusing naming puppies with the same names as those in the household. Although my dog would sometimes ignore me whnever I'd call out his name. He'd even intentionally look the other way so as to avoid my gaze. However, the vet warned me about such odd dog behavior when he was still a little puppy.

Micky and Minnie would suit them fine if one's a girl and the other a boy.

Thanks, Sheilamarie! That's Mini Muning Two that you like.

we have six cats, 4 males and 2 females...we had them castrated even the females so we won't have any problems with little ones showing up all of a sudden..haha

That's a very good idea, Nashei. Don't know how I'd do it, but I know Mini Mnig One is friendly enough to put in bag and walk over to the vet in the area. But the other two ... hmmmmm....

Thanks for the idea!

I'm back, reviewing the comments here, hoping to find suggestions on "how to get rid of cats in your house, despite your son's objection". hehehe.

Anyway, I forgot to mention - I like that top photo of Muning and Mini Muning One. :)

Awww. Cute post. I remember then we had like 12 kittens at the household, now we only have 1. I like kittens, I just don't like their poo smell until they are housebroken.

I really wonder, Ferdz, where they do their call of nature, because like I said we don't see or smell anything. My suspicion is that Muning takes them back up on the roof where they do it. And would just take them down again during the day.

Hi Noypetes!

I remember Dolphy, Panchito and Patsy (Tawag ng Tanghalan), but Lupito I'm struggling with.

Hmmmm ... remember Oscar (kumang) Obligacion? Doro de los Ojos? Pugo and Bentot? Hehehe.

Lupito was Patsy's original partner in Tawag ng Tanghalan. He has a son named Jun lupito who is a rocker in Manila. Doro De Los Ojos was a neighbor of an old high school flame of mine in Proj. 4 QC.
Oscar Obligacion is still around I believe and is in the upholstery business. Last i read about oscar was an article about his business providing seats for moviehouses.

Wow! You're really a source of incredible trivia, Noypetes.

Honestly, my memory is failing me with Lupito, but will probably remember him in a while (I mean the face; the name is familiar).

All these folks mentioned were also part of the old Clover Theater lineup also, I think.

Thanks!

If I'm in my good boy mode back then, I'd be bringing kittens home. The cat that I remember the most was this exquisite all-white cat. She's the most wily cat we've had. A light fur color is said to be a disadvantage to hunting, but this cat would still prove prolific to down birds, insects, rodents and snakes. She gave birth to other white cats that were picked up one by one by strangers to have as their pet somewhere else.

Cats are clean with their bathroom stuff because they bury their wastes.

With cats, as well as dogs, I like them best when they're still kittens and puppies because they're very cute and very playful.

Hey, Dave, I noticed last night that Mini Muning One seemed blind for he couldn't see the pieces of bread I threw his way. He only got to eat them as he stepped over them. This morning, I noticed his left eye is closed. But then the maid said "nagmumuta daw."

Thanks God, if true! I was actually afraid that he got beat up and his eyes scratched.

Eric, here are a couple of scenarios in our house.

Last night, Aypee went to bed early because he had early morning class the following day. I was in the living room watching tv... Then suddenly, he came rushing out of his room:

Me: O, bakit?

He didn't get back inside until the white kitten was also inside the carport.

Tonight, he ate his dinner late. We left one whole 'inihaw na bangus' for him. Normally, he could eat all of the whole bangus alone. But he cut it in half and even before he could start eating, gave the other half of the fish to his cats.

*Sigh!* I rest my case...

Oh, my! A good enough reason to leave things as they are, Rhoda.

Aypee, has found something to be concerned about other than himself, and I think that is very good for young people. Good for him!

He really loves his white kitten!

nakakatouch naman yung blog entry mo. Naalala ko tuloy yung mga dating pusa namin. We have to leave them behind kasi dito sa bago namin bahay maliit lang yung space sa labas. yung hubby ko nga tuwing naaalala yun nalulungkot. Minsan naiisip namin kung ano na nangyari sa kanila. :(

I have a feeling, Lovingsue, na yung mga dati mong pusa ay doing all right. Ganyan naman ang mga pusa, eh, survivors and mga 'yan. Huwag nga lamang sasaktan ng mga tao.

Thank you for visiting!
