PALMA TAYONA'S FIRST ONE-MAN SHOW
This Monday, January 14th, is the opening of Palma Tayona's first one-man show entitled LIVING/Stories. The show will feature some paintings he had done during the past two years, including those he wrote about in his blog, Visual Viscera.
LIVING/Stories opens on January 14, 2008 at 7pm and will run until January 25th. it will be held at 1/OF Gallery, 2nd level Shops at Serendra, Global City, Taguig, Metro Manila.

Amadeo said... After visiting the linked sites, one senses a very Reubenesque take on the human form, though extended way more.
Would this now be common in the Philippine milieu? Quite a departure from the Amorsolo period.-

The local art scene, Amadeo, is vibrant and teeming with many talent wjoa are pursuing various styles.
I love Tayona's Reubenesque forms. I think he's the only one doing such locally.-

I miss going to such exhibits. I have wanted to visit the exhibits here too....time and companion won't allow me lol.

The gallery hours is the same as that of the mall, Rhoda, so I guess, until 10pm? You may want to check out the gallery's link just to make sure :)

How I wish I can be there for the opening night of Palma Toyona one-man-art show! He's one of my blog mates and I really admired his vibrant style. I would say this painting you posted, the woman w/ calla lilies reminds me of the painting of Diego Rivera, a famous Mexican artist.I would say that Tayona's paintings have more delicious Latin flavor. Good luck and best wishes to him on his art show.

He is really a talented fellow, Ebb Tide. I'm certain he'll be very famous in the not too distant future. His works have a certain "feel good" about them :)
Unable to attend his opening last night. Without company, I don't feel comfortable driving at night alone. The Fort is quite a drive from where I live :(-

Thanks for posting the update and article about Tayona from the newspaper. The artist posted the photo in his blog but the prints are too small to read. You know, I got connected to this artist through blog. He found my blog through your blog and he dropped me a wonderful comment. He's not only a good artist but a good blog-mate. Someday , I hope to meet him in person and see his paintings too.
