Wow! Naku, Eric, you are continually amazing your readers with shots like these. Ganda ng top photo, with the flag in the background...Galing galing talaga!

great pics. the last pic showed that not only do they practice the piece, they also took time to add choreography to it. very impressive.

They also, for entertainment, did the otso-otso dance routine, Carla. It was hysterical, but I was to busy laughing to take pictures. Besides, such provocative poses my be deemed unbecoming of an officer ... hehehe!

Many thanks, MM! Not too many people were there because of the switched holiday day off. You would've enjoyed it!

Your welcome, Dine! It was nice to see a military parade once again.

You should have been there, Tito, not too many photographers around :)

Thanks, Rhoda! Chamba lang yan :)

It must be tough, Photo Cache to be playing an instrument and also keeping in lockstep to choreographed moves. Bravo for these guys!

I've seen them perform a lot of times since my uncle was a Philippine Marine and in some occasions on Military shows and band performance, I'm not sure if they still play their trademark tune - part of the Marlboro commercial music. And the one knee sit-up position while playing their tune is one of their famous tricks. Pag natumba, tumba sila lahat -- hahaha. Nice Photo Journal, Eric *okay*

Yes, Reyd, they played it! It is actually the soundtrack for the movie, "Magnificent Seven." Their overall repertoise was rather impressive and they played each one impressively while doing all those choreographed maneuvers, too.
Yes, they performed that trick, as well as many others. I chose not to elaborate so as not to take the element of surprise away for those who haven't seen this admirable band perform live.
A salute to your uncle, Reyd!- said...
Natuwa ako sa last picture. I could just hear them now there well chorographed and all. Would have been intereting to actually hear them. Must be intense.

They were actually pretty good, Ferdz! I've grown up with my father playing big band music (including recordings by some brass bands playing Souza marching music, especially on fiestas and holidays), so, I had a good time listening to the marine band's performance.

And many thanks also, Aura, for leaving such a warm note. This kind of response such as this mainly fuels my desire to go out there and keep taking more pictures so as to share with "kababayans" who are away from Manila.
Mabuhay to you and your hubby!- -= dave =- said...
Ah yes the Marines band is a joy to watch, says my pilot-brother.
Speaking of cigarette commercial jingles, did you know that the composer of the Hope jingle is a Pinoy? Apparently there's a non-disclosure agreement so I think this is more than enough information for everyone ;)- Señor Enrique said...
I didn't know that, Dave. Why wouldn't he want this fact to be made public? A shy composer? Hehehe!
This Marines band was truly delightful to watch!- reyd said...
Hahaha!"Magnificent Seven." nga pala yun!, Marlboro yosi ko kasi when I used to smoke. About those marching bands in Pinas, the FEU Boy Scout band used to be one of the best marching bands. They were good when I taught there for a while. I wonder how many schools there have their own band for competitions. Here in the US, grabe naman, although I enjoyed all of them especially the college bands, there is really something special on any military bands when you hear them play.
On this last Independence day celeb., My friend who went home there said, it was pathetic, there seems to lack some excitement daw.
Wala daw Fly-by of any PAF planes.
(I said) baka grounded lahat ng planes. :D- Señor Enrique said...
Wala ngang mga jet, Reyd! Only those PAF parachutists or gliders.
What really created a less than festive mood is the lack of a huge crowd to appreciate these shows.
FEU, huh? Have I got something in store for you :)- Unknown said...
