Nice photos, Eric. I particularly like the first one.

I wonder if you could feature here also - devotees flocking in churches on Wednesday afternoons for the Novena to the Immaculate Virgin Mary. I believe it's in Baclaran where most devotees go for this devotion. I just marvel at pictures of women walking on their knees to the altar!

Though I'm not a through and through devout Catholic, I do believe in Marian intercession.

I do believe, Kyels, that the first Friday of the month is traditionally the most significant for devotees to honor the Black Nazarene of Quiapo besides its feast in January.

Interestingly, Rhoda, I had thought about doing a similar photo essay on Baclaran on a Wednesday just as I was posting these photos :) I may just do so.

Yes, a lot of folks claim healing effects or wishes granted derived from being devotees.

Many thanks, Ferdz.

For some odd reason, that little girl seemed more interested on the activities going on behind her, and I was just lucky enough to snap a pic of the moment.

Neither have I, Tet, but I'm seriously planning to attend the next Feast of the Black Nazarene. I'd like to see what kind of photographs I could come up with of this grand procession.

I'd love to take pictures during the evening, Sidney. Maybe more people and with even more dramatic illuminations because of the evening natural and artificial lighting.

It does take some getting used to, Jon. The first few times I was very uncomfortable and wary, but nowadays I blend in with the crowd as naturally and comfortably like a true local :)

There's this First Friday Devotion (panata) wherein the churchgoer who has completed (meaning, took Holy Communion in) nine consecutive First Friday Masses is promised to gain indulgence from past sins. This indulgence is a sort of erasure of the punishment lined up either in this life (temporal indulgence) or the afterlife (plenary indulgence) due to sins committed. I'm not sure what type of indulgence is being offered for this particular devotion, though.

The folks I've met who solemnly do this "panata" swear that they do get their wishes granted by the Black Nazarene, Dave. Simply amazing, eh?
