SOMETHING ABOUT JESSA
This is Jessa. She is my niece's daughter. Jessa used to be very proud of her long, flowing hair like those of highly paid models of shampoo commercials, which many local domestic helpers religiously emulate.
However, despite many pleadings, Jessa eventually relented and allowed her hair to be cut very short. It wasn't because it's the trendy hairdo for little girls during the summertime. It was because a colony of head lice was found thriving in her luscious hair.
Everyone was glad that she agreed to get a haircut and undergo the prescribed insecticide therapy; otherwise, she may have not been invited to a children's party hosted by a cousin.

I didn't realize head lice is still a problem. It was during the time I was growing up - they try to get rid of them by painstakingly searching for them in the hairy head and crushing them to death, by using a "suyod", a very fine-toothed comb, to capture them, and as a last resort to, to shave the head bald. Those were the fun days LOL.

Those suyods are still very much in use, bertN. Remember the late afternoon scene in which the women gather around checking each other's head for lice as they engaged in gossip? Hehehe.
I think in some Asian countries, monkeys are trained for that purpose -- to search and destroy lice in people's heads.- said...
Lice and lies are here to stay.

Sana nagpakulot na lang siya. Ganun ang ginawa ko minsan years ago when I encountered same head lice problem.
But anyway, she'll grow her hair in no time. Right, Jessa? :)- Señor Enrique said...
Here's a background story on this photo shoot, Carlotta:
I only used a single light source t -- a desk lamp I placed high up behind her. I then handed Jessa a styrofoam board which she held with her right hand so as to bounce the light from the desk lamp onto her face. I then asked her to give me the same look on her face as her hair was getting cut.
She loves to be photographed.
Thanks and you have the same, Carlotta!- Señor Enrique said...
I also prefer my hair short, Luke, especially during the summertime.
Thanks!- Señor Enrique said...
Jessa's hair was way too long, Rhoda, that if curled, she may look like the Black Nazarene.
I sometimes wonder why little girls enjoy having such long hair even during the summer months. Hindi ba napaka-init noon sa ulo lalo na pagnaglalaro sila?- said...
Black Nazarene! hahaha.
Gem's hair was short when she was little. Kahirap kasing ayusan pag mahaba ang buhok, at irritable pa siya. She started growing her hair long only when she stepped into high school.- said...
well, at least i am sure i won't have problems with head lice. i don't even need shampoo! hehehe...
Advanced Happy Easter Eric!!- Señor Enrique said...
Going bald is oftentimes the most practical and economical. But the ladies may not go for it, though :)
Thanks, Daniel ... you have a good Easter, too!- Señor Enrique said...
Ever seen some women, Rhoda, who'd leave the house early in the morning with their long hair still wet? I heard there were near-fights inside jeepneys caused by such wet long hair slapping against the faces of fellow passengers ... hehehe.

I agree with the previous poster. The curing solution that makes hair curl is Hair lice killer. They'll fall of during the rinse!

i used to have playmates whose head is full of lice and we would all run suyod to their thick hair over and over before we start playing. i kinda think they were cute ;)

i need some catching up...laughing as i read your post and the comments. an aunt used Baygon chalk on my cousin's head to get rid of lice. it worked!
i had waist-length hair until i was 15 when i had it cut without asking for my mother's permission. the whole family was shocked when they saw my short hair. my mother cried and said my dad would turn from his grave if he'd see my short hair. thank God, my sister and i never had lice growing up...my mother checked our heads hair everyday!:D
