SUMMER IN THE CITY

For those stuck in the city this weekend like me, with the current record-breaking summer heat, there are basically only two things to do: either stay home and enjoy the comfort of one's home, or go out anyway and find something fun to do.

Although the new Spiderman movie seems to the most popular choice this weekend for most, there are also other activities going on in and around Manila worth checking out. Here's a sampling:

Obviously, I am not one to merely stay home this weekend. I intend to defy the scorching summer heat and go out -- to take some pictures, nonetheless.

Incidentally, that picture above of a grand staircase was taken inside the old Finance Building which is now the home of the National Museum. Speaking of which, there's a couple of ongoing exhibitions in the museum that you may want to check out as well:

What amazes me is that although the large cities in our provinces may not be as populous as Manila, there is still enough people in every town to sustain these kind of cultural activities. Señor Enrique said...: Ah, the beach is always the ideal respite from the summer heat, Photo Cache, but the real nice ones are quite a distance away from Manila. The swimming pools in Laguna are the next best thing for most young Manilans.

It will be raining here the entire weekend so we will be just staying at home. I'm working overtime on Sat. too.

Hmmm... I wonder if the boys would be willing to wait that much longer to see Spiderman. You know, half the excitement is being part of a large audience.

Those last two months for me were like spent in a Turkish sauna. Many locals said the hottest they have seen in many years.

But back in NYC, there could be weeks during the summer when the temperature hit the 100 mark as well. But then again, I find the hot weather a lot more manageable than the extreme cold.; May 06, 2007 7:03 AM

except for 1 trip to mall of asia a few days ago, a movie in gateway, and you guessed it right--spidey, snacks in Choco Kiss in UP, a few trips to Chow King and Little Quiapo for the halo halo, i opted to remain holed up in my airconditioned room at home. i do not like summer because of its sweltering heat. too bad when there are a hundred and one things to explore! i'd do the exploring on a rainy day.; May 06, 2007 9:11 AM
